View Full Version : Quick broken dial tone when first picking up phone
Hi... I looked around, but can't find any mentions of this.
When I pick up my receiver to make an outgoing call, I hear a broken dial tone for about 1-2 seconds, followed by the regular steady dial tone.
What is this broken dial tone? I thought maybe it meant that I have a voicemail message or something, but I don't.
Thanks a lot.

CJay,
Well the stutter does mean you have/had a voicemail. If you listen to them through your control panel online, you can clear the tone by dialing 8500#, your mailbox password, then a message will come on that says 'No New Messages'. Hang up and you should be set!
Thanks,
Allen
Yeah, that was weird. It took an hour or two after clearing the mailbox before I stopped receiving the broken dial tone.
Thanks for the confirmation that this was the cause.
(I disabled VM since I don't need it anyway... I prefer the answering machine here) ;)
CJay,
I prefer our answering machine as well, but have voice messaging turned on to answer at 25 seconds which is enough for the answering machine to pick up first. This way if you are on the phone the voice messaging will take the message instantly. I really dislike call waiting, so this works well for me.
