After much talks on the phone with support here is my problem, in hopes someone could give insite as to the fix.

At first when I called my Parents (a call from Illinois to Maryland) would yeald in a (75% chance) echo for me.

After a few weeks and finaly a levil 2 suppost person called me back, he changed my Codec to (I think) g711.

Now all my calls out are very clear, no echo. But when my parents call me I still here an echo from my end.

How in the world can I make a call to them and have no echo. But when thay call me there is an echo?

Keep in mind that, thay have a normal landline phone.

Today my wife tried to call a business and the call never even started to ring. She tried several times, it never even showed up in the call history. I came home from work and it worked without any trouble.

What would make a call not start?

Thanks in advance for any advice or information any of you can give.
Bobby

bgage,

I made a few minor changes to your adapter. Lets see if that takes care of it. If not, let me know. There may be a problem with the echo control on the adapter. If so, we'll get another one shipped out.

Thanks,

Dennis

Note! I tried it last night using my soft phone on my laptop. Same problem. When I call my parents there is no Echo. When they call me there is an echo.

Any call quality changes are only going to affect the calls made through our device. We don't directly support the X-lite softphone, it's actually a free program from the company CounterPath. You might try browsing the forums for some advice here - http://support.counterpath.com/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=ea1882ecf8a28fcedec38022637652bd

You may also want to check your x-lite settings for the SIP port 5060.

Do you still get an echo on your calls through our device?

Well after reading the above posts I understand what the issue is.. I apologize :o. I got in contact with a technician and they will investigate the issue. We'll be sure to follow-up on this until we get a resolution, but in the meantime they provided us Ticket #62512.

Thanks,

Yep... Same problem with both soft phone and VoIP Adapter.

My parents are calling the 240 area code virtual number.

I don't have an echo when my in-laws call... They call my 618 are code number.

Not sure if the problem is at the 240 location?

Hope this helps.

Bobby,

I just got off the phone with a technician and we added a new virtual number to your account in the 240 area. To look at the new number just login to your account online, and click the 'My Account' tab. Give the new number a couple of test calls and let me know if that alleviates the issue. If not I'll get right back on it.

Thanks,

Allen

Tested both old and new 240 numbers. Don't see any difference. Even had my wife talk on it. She also agrees the problem is the same as before, just as bad.

I'm not sure if it makes any difference, but when someone uses there cell phone and calls that number there is no problem. Only land line phones.

My Grandfather calls on his land line phone to that same number and there is also an echo.

So it seems that anyone that calls on a land line to the 240 numbers I will here myself echo.

Using my X-Lite I get the same problems and have recorded a call I made. If you would like me to somehow email or attach it I can.

I see only zip files can be send but it is not small enough. So I will convert to mp3 then zip and attach if you would like. Hoping it will get small enough.

Bobby,

Thank you very much for all the information, I really appreciate it. If you can email the zip to Customer Service I'll be sure to take a look at it. I will get in touch with the technician today and continue to update you on this.

Thanks,

Allen

Thanks for all your time!

Someone from VYL called me last week and I was unable to return the call. Just wanted to let you know that I am keeping VYL and, am happy with service. The echo is better.

I did find out that both people that call me on that Maryland number both use AT&T as there long distance service. I feel this must be at fault, because both people that call me, I echo with. They have different phones in there house. One has wireless the other is wired.

Thanks for all your time,

Bobby

I have had the same issue and I think I finally figured it out. Basically, all local to local calls will have the echo...only when it's inbound. So 240 to 240 will have the echo...but not if it is a cellphone. The reason is that the local phone company thinks this is just a local call and treats the echo suppression differently. One thing you might try is a different 240 number... one that is far away from your parents house. Of course, now it might be a charge to call, so try and find the farthest number you can in that area code so they won't be charged.
I don't think there is any physical solution to this unfortunately other than the local landline phone company somehow knowing to change their own echo suppression settings on the fly. However, I have noticed that as time goes by on the call, the echo gets a little better.
So to summarize:
Local landline# > local voip# = echo
Local cellphone# > local voip# = no echo (The cell companies have good echo suppression)
Local landline# > far away voip# = no echo

That's it. I don't think this is the case for everyone since there are different landline phone services out there.
