View Full Version : Subsequent Incoming Calls Fail

Hi,
I've observed that subsequent incoming calls fail after the first call gets through. For example I receive an incoming call at 2:00pm the phone rings and all is good. After I hang up and another call attempts to get through, my phone does not ring. The caller eventually gets directed to voice mail. It seems that at least 5 minutes must pass (maybe more) until another call can get through.
I've already set the port forwarding to forward 5004, 5060 to 5069 and 16000 to 16500 to the IP address of the phone adapter.
What else can I do?
BTW the phone adapter is behind my router since I require VPN for work.
thanks,
Ben

Ben,
I reviewed your account and it does appear that our device is still not on the correct ports.
Those are the correct ports you mentioned, just make sure it's UDP and I see you pointed it to our device. I would encourage you to double check the port forwarding and make sure it's applied, possibly re-check the IP address of our device. It is DHCP and could have changed.
Let me know when you've double checked the settings and I can confirm on our end.
Thanks,
Allen

Hi
I power cycled my linksys router and checked that the port forwarding settings were still set properly w/ the protocol set to UDP.
In addition, I power cycled the phone adapter and rechecked the IP address and it was still set to x.x.1.100 which matched the setting for my port forwarding.
And still, the first call can get through, but the second one does not. I also noticed that even after I hang up the phone that I'm using to call my number, the phone continues to ring until I pick up the phone. Another clue? or another issue.
Please check the line from your end again.
thanks,
ben

- I rechecked the port forwarding tables on the Linksys Router.
- Powercycled the router and the phone adapter
- Checked that the port forwarding entries were still intact
- Rechecked the phone adapter's IP address, it was still ...1.100
- But still the problem exists.
- I also observed that when I call (the first call that makes it through, using my cell phone), if I hang up cell phone before answering the home phone, the home phone continues to ring until it is picked up. A clue perhaps? Maybe the first call is "sticky" and I can't get subsequent calls until that first call "times out"...

Ben,
Everything you're providing is correct, but reviewing the registration of the device still shows it is not using the correct VoIP ports.
What is the model of the Linksys router you're using? I would like to take a look at it and see if there could be any reason it's not forwarding correctly. Also, I looked into the external IP and the ISP could possibly be blocking the VoIP ports as well, but I would like to look into the router portion first.
I also observed that when I call (the first call that makes it through, using my cell phone), if I hang up cell phone before answering the home phone, the home phone continues to ring until it is picked up. A clue perhaps? Maybe the first call is "sticky" and I can't get subsequent calls until that first call "times out"...
This issue would happen when the phone rings and you hang up, our server needs to send the hangup message on port 5060. If it can't communicate through the right port it will continue to ring. When you pick up the phone it tries communicating over our talkpath ports and will ultimately find no phone call on the other end.
I hope this information helps, please let me know if you have any additional questions or need any further assistance.
Thanks,
Allen

Hi,
Have you been able to check the router? I am still having the same problem of not getting subsequent phone calls after an initial call.
thanks,
Ben

Ben,
Bad news.
Your ISP is blocking the ports you need. I have had similar problems accessing my own website when I am in North Georgia. Thank God I don't live up there where you have no other ISP provider options.
I believe they are trying to force you to use them (Windstream) for everything - phone service, internet service, web hosting, e-mail, VOIP, etc and penalize you for using someone or anyone else. They do nothing to accomodate you and everything to block you from using other competitors, options or sources. Everything, customer service, tech support, etc. has been sent offshore. The service is poor. They promise to get back to you and NEVER do. They will not unblock ports. When you call to explain problems they swear it is not them blocking you (when it is) and that it is your computer, or your ISP or in your case your VOIP. They also monitor your actions so they can block any work arounds you are able to find with the help of your own tech support.
I travel often and to many locations throughout the entire US and windstream is the ONLY ISP in the entire country I have encountered that prevents me from completely accessing my e-mail, or my internet provider, or the control panel to my own website. Selected ports are blocked so that I have no access to my sites, based on my expereince with them, I feel confident they are doing the same to you.
Good Luck.

I have netgear WGR614v7 and I have tried everything to port forward my phone but nothing work.
Back in February when I set up my new netgear and plug into the voip router. It was working just fine til my laptop went to the shop. After I got it back everything changed and I had to reinstalled my netgear into my laptop so that how everything change. I didnt have to port forward the first time around and now this. I am having a hard time with this.
This is what I had set up in my netgear router
voip- starting port 5060 ending port 5069
voip1-start port 16384 ending port 16482
both set up in UDP.
I also noticed on my voip router the all three lights is on not ever blinking. Normally the middle would be blinking. knowing that was working but it is not blinking.
