Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is an exciting communication technology that has a plethora of advantages for both the individual user as well as business enterprises; it has begun to change the traditional telephony. Another type of VoIP device is an Internet Protocol phone (IP). An IP phone looks like a standard telephone, complete with a handset and keypad for dialing. But, instead of having the conventional phone connectors (RJ-11), an IP phone is equipped with an Ethernet connection (RJ-45). This VoIP device connects to your internet router and allows you to make phone calls directly from the phone, dialing it just like any standard telephone.
Yet another type of VoIP device is known as computer-to-computer or SIP softphone (software phone). This type of device is highly advantageous, particularly for those who often make overseas calls, as some long-distance phone calls are free of charge. Many VoIP service providers offer free or low-price software that you install on your computer. If your computer is equipped with a microphone, PC speakers, and a sound card in addition to your internet connection, then you will be able to quickly set up to talk to anyone located in any part of the world using VoIP.
The VoIP products have changed the traditional methods of communication, and these VoIP products are projected as part of the technology of the future. A VoIP handset generally comes with a VoIP phone service system unless you intend retaining your old analog phone and use a VoIP Phone Adapter. There are three types of wireless VoIP headsets: one has a USB connection for softphone (PC) use; the others can be used with an analog phone and VoIP Adapter or as a stand alone IP handset.
A VoIP Firewall stands between the VoIP router and the internet connection. If properly implemented, this is your first line of defense against viruses and spam.
